KAPITI CHORALE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2010

President's Report for 2009

Let us go singing as far as we go; the road will be less tedious. Virgil The Eclogues.

The spirit of the choir is positive and encouraging after a busy and eventful year. Three successful concerts have needed dedicated work by your committee and by the choir.

Membership:
Membership has remained stable at around 80. Male singers are as always in short supply and we urge members to search out recruits.

Publicity:
Publicity of the highest standard attracted record numbers to each concert and kept the choir's name in the public eye. The 'St. Paul's concerts' as some call them are on many people's calendars; buses from Rest Homes are now a regular sight in the concert day car park.

Publications:
The production of programmes, newsletters and other publicity material is outstanding. These publications project the professional image of the choir.

Library:
We thank Graeme for his many years of dedicated service to the choir as Librarian and welcome Ruth as his successor. Our music holdings are housed in Waikanae Library and we are grateful to KCDC library staff for their support. There is a catalogue of our Collection and our listings with National Library have been updated.

Archives:
The choir's history Archives are now looked after by Julie Jensen.

Catering:
Catering for soloists and guests after each concert is now done 'in house'. A sub-committee undertakes this in a simple but stylish manner, which reflects the high standards of the Chorale. The 'Christmas Concert' get together was well organised by this sub-committee; the interaction of choir, soloists and guests from VUW Friends was a success.

Website:
This website is kept up to date by our diligent Webmasters. Visotors are well informed of the choir's events.

Kapiti Chorale Award in Vocal Performance:
The 2009 recipient of this award was announced at our December concert at which we were pleased to have both award winners present. This liaison with Victoria Unversity is much valued and has resulted in heightened publicity by the attendance of a large group of 'Friends of VUW' at each concert.

Kapiti Concert Coordination:
Our initiative in calling a meeting of interested concert organisers resulted in a new Coordinator being appointed. Janet Secker of Coast Access Radio ensures that coordination of Kapiti concerts minimises 'clashes' and as far as possible 'outside' groups fit in with the Kapiti events programme.

Kapiti Performance Centre:
Chorale representatives are a part of the group working on this hoped for and much needed Centre.

Ensemble Nobile:
A hardworking sub-committee supported by friends and family organised this prestigious concert at the Waikanae Presbyterian Church and billeted and hosted the visiting group from Leipzig. It was with pride that we noted that due to this superb organisation and publicity the group had the largest audience of its New Zealand visit.

Acknowledgements:
My Annual Report would not be complete without acknowledgement of the good fortune we have in our Music Director, Marie Brown, rehearsal pianist Ellen Barrett, Pat Shields, our Concert Master for so many concerts and Peter Averi, organist and long time friend of the Chorale. We also thank our Patron, Professor Peter Godfrey, whose personal mana enhances our standing in the musical community. I take this public occasion to thank the committee for its care and support during what was a difficult year for me. They 'sidelined' me and continued to undertake the choir's management in every way, working as a well oiled and cheerful team; I would encourage choir members to consider being part of this wonderful team for a year or two. It is through the hard work of committees through the years that the Kapiti Chorale has achieved its high standing.

I consider myself fortunate to be a part of this amazing choir with its fun, friendship, teamwork and commitment to such glorious music.
